She wasn't sure if she cared about major bleeding. When something was inside her body that wasn't supposed to be there, she just wanted it out. Why wasn't it easier to make that happen? Foreign object or matter? Just get it out! But Sean sounded adamant and she didn't argue. He had better things to do then sit there and argue with her.
Sydney's head fell to the side so that she could watch Sean check the woman. From the look on his face, she could tell that the woman was seriously injured. She tried to focus her thoughts on her family and her brother's image flooded her mind. Was this the kind of chaos he saw in Iraq, things torn apart and people injured? Broken and bloodied bodies? "My brother is in the army. He's in Iraq and I worry about him every day but he always tells me he has nine lives and he's only on his 6th."
When he moved back to her side and took her hand, she realized he wasn't going to leave her. She nodded at his words and her earlier determination to tell him she'd be fine alone was fading. She felt like a selfish coward. Then she remembered his niece. "Molly," she said, her eyes searching his face. "You need to find Molly." She knew he needed it, she could see how close they were. If a member of her family was on board, she would need to find them too.
