"No! Do NOT take it out. I know it hurts, sweetheart, but you gotta leave it there. I don't know how deep it is, and it may be stopping major bleeding. I'm sorry, but it has to stay there until a doctor can see to it and be ready if takin' it out does more harm than good."
Moving her wasn't an option. It would move the wood, disrupt the injury. Luckily, she'd already been on the floor and not on top of anyone. The woman next to her was out cold and apparently had a broken arm. She was more bruise than flesh.
"I'm right here next to you but I have to check on this woman. Talk to me. You never told me about your family. Tell me about them." It would keep her focused as she tried to form the words, maybe even concentrated on a memory.
He checked the bruised woman's pulse. Her abdoman seemed swollen and hard. Fuck. The tightness of her dress suggested it wasn't pregnancy. Even if it had been it was bad. But there was definate internal bleeding. Hehad to leave her where she was and he pulled a piece of wood to lay at her feet. It looked like everyone else was tended to as the doctors, nurses and other help swarmed in.
Sean moved back to Sydney's side and took her hand. "Hey, help's here. I don't know the order they'll take people." But she was sure to be up there. There were ten people in critical shape, but none were dead. Yet. "The whole ship's a mess."
Several of the 'calvery' he now noted were crew, only one looked like they were a nurse. A man who was guiding them. But stretchers were present. Two. Damn, they were sliding a tabletop under one victim, but their braced roll showed they had been trained as supplimental EMT's.
