It had been a great party. Fabulous, in fact, especially after the number of drinks Zania had had. She continued to dance, even after the music stopped, bouncing as they counted out the new year. When it came to handing out kisses, she wasn't stingy, smacking lips with the guy nearest to her before the world started to turn.
She'd been thinking a midnight swim would be nice, but this was not exactly how she planned to go about it. As one of the people standing atop the glass floor, the bottom literally was torn from beneath her. Hands went out to brace her fall, but without an idea of which way was up, she only ended up throwing her arms about uselessly. Water splashed over her, then around her, and it took a mouthful for Zania to realize she was completely underwater.
It reminded her of the time she and Stefan had visited a water park as children. There had been a wave pool, and the deeper they went, the bigger the waves were. This made the wave pool look like ripples in bathwater. As people fell in around her, Zania pushed up to the top, struggling to get a breath of air as she was washed to the other side. Pain sparked the back of her head as she crashed into the ladder, her mouth rising about the water just in time to take a breath. That was all the time she had, though, as the water began to pull her away, her arms reaching for the ladder in an attempt to fight the current.
