tempting fate Who: Res, Keane, and NPC Chesh When: Around 9-ish Where: H Deck pool-side stage
"You know, I'm suddenly a lot less enthusiastic about this idea than I was an hour ago." Keane commented as he stood with Res and Chesh on the stage, watching crew members close the pool. The water was rocking pretty hard, and the dance-floor they were covering it with... well, it was certainly thick, and a heavy looking thing, but generally this really seemed like the sort of thing that ended up on a news show under the headline of 'When Good Ideas Go Bad'.
Res, bless her slacker heart, wasn't even dressed yet. She was still wearing a pair of tattered jeans and her bikini top she'd been running around in all day. The three of them really should have been working on soundcheck. They all knew this. And yet here they stood, watching. They had at least set their equipment up already. They didn't have shiny roadies to do that shit for them. "It'd make a cool video." she said, shrugging. The pool was illuminated with different colored lights, which shone through the glass dance floor and cast rippling prism effects on the walls and ceiling. She looked to Chesh, standing on her left. "What do you think?"
Chesh shrugged. "They know what they're doing. And if they don't, I'll be out of here at the first sign of a fuck-up. No skin off my back. But that water starts splashing around I would not want to be strapped to an electric guitar."
Res grinned at him. "You gonna abandon us if it gets hairy?"
"Fuck, yes." Chesh answered. "Things start getting wet in here and my black ass is out the door. I don't care if it turns you into a Kentucky fried crackwhore, I'm out." he said, smirking right back at her.
"I feel so loved." Res said, shaking her head. "You wouldn't even unplug me, you'd just let me fry? That's cold."
"Mm mm, baby girl, I do not play the hero. It ain't covered by the health plan." Chesh replied. "First splash? I'm out."
Res grinned a bit wider. "What's the matter? Can't swim?"
Chesh stared at her for a moment. "Girl, you are a racist ho!" He was smirking though. This was how they talked to each other, and always had been. Normally Keane would join in on the classic activity of ripping each other apart, but he was too busy thinking and watching the crew.
Res burst out laughing, and finally headed over to her guitar. She pulled the strap over her head and pulled a pick out of her pocket before she started tuning. Chesh had headed back over to his drum kit. Res realized belatedly that Keane hadn't said anything in a while. "You okay?"
Keane looked over his shoulder at her. "You really think this is a good idea?" he asked, nodding his head in the direction of the pool. He was not sold on the idea yet. Maybe he was just a cynical bastard. It was his duty as the voice of reason within the group to occasionally let it out.
Res studied him for a second, before smiling a little bit and taking a few steps closer to him. "You're nervous." she said. "That's so cute." She was teasing him, yes, but really, it kind of was. She wasn't used to seeing Keane nervous, usually he was game for anything. He was smarter about it than she was, but still there wasn't a lot he wasn't willing to try.
Keane scowled and turned to head over to his bass. "I am not nervous, I'm skeptical. Big difference." he said. "Big, important difference."
"Called, what? Pride?" Res asked, grinning widely again. She was going to get it for this, and she knew it, but she was physically incapable of not giving him shit for this. Were the tables turned, she knew he'd do exactly the same thing.
He would have. He even knew that. But it didn't keep him from making another face at her. "Please." he scoffed. "Whatever. If you guys are cool, I'm cool."
"I'm cool." Res confirmed, before glancing back at Chesh, who started testing the bass drum. "Chesh is cool. Everybody's cool." she said. And knowing full well that some deity would probably make her pay for this, she took a few steps closer to Keane and grinned at him. "Don't worry. I'll protect you."
Keane tried not to smirk at her, really he did, but it didn't work out so well. She was in a good mood, and her good moods were always infectious. It was good to see her enjoying herself. "You'll pay for that." he warned her, finally grinning back. "I'll see to it myself."
Res laughed wickedly and headed back over to her mic stand. "Yeah, I'm looking forward to that." she scoffed. There was no ruining her good mood tonight. She was ready and willing to tempt the fates.
