Melissa Anne Montgomery was actually feeling pretty relaxed. Then again, she hadn't been up late at the costume ball the previous evening, or anywhere else. Oh, she'd gone, but had retired fairly early to return to her room. It really was a great room, almost as if it had been picked especially for her, and her tastes. Then, she'd pulled out her trusty friend and guitar, Jesse James, and worked on a few songs.
That noon called for a light snack and a coffee, however. The blond appeared at the cafe, chatting away on the cellphone that had just rang. "Yes, Mama, I'm having a nice time," she reassured her mother in a mildly exasperated tone, her light, Southern drawl not really bad, but distinct enough. "The people are real friendly. No, I haven't met anyone special yet." She rolled her eyes. "Hey, I gotta go, okay? Give Daddy all my love. Bye."
With a little half-grin, despite herself, she hung up the phone and returned it to her purse. She ordered a coffee and a sandwich - nothing big, as she'd had a big breakfast that morning. Mel was generally quite friendly, but she wasn't just going to go sit at some stranger's table. But she sat relatively near the corner table where another woman was reading a book.
"Good book?" she asked casually with a little smile, before taking a bite of her sandwich.
