He caught himself as his fingers tangled further into her hair. Better not get lost in it, as he tended to do sometimes. She teased him about it, but Jean really did absolutely adore her hair. Az didn't let him go when she spoke, instead tightening her hug as he held her close. That never meant good news. In fact, no, possible kidney failure was not good news.
What did this mean for her? She was never close to her father, but a father is still family, and he could tell she was upset. Jean thought it would probably be best to not question closely why her father contacted her, particularly since a little voice in his head was asking if the kidney failure would result in death... That is just not something you ask people.
"Oh, I'm sorry." What else was there to say? He wasn't the best with words, but at least he was good to hug. "That's never good news, especially not at six-- seven in the morning on your vacation..." He wondered which specifics, if any, she was leaving out of what she told him. "Finally decided to connect with his family, I guess," he thought aloud, almost regretting it. There was a slight tone of disapproval that Jean did his best to mask under neutral. People should never be too busy for their families, no matter what.
"You okay though? I mean, aside from getting the news and the obvious and the being upset and all... I mean, if we have to turn this boat around and go home, I won't protest." He added, forgetting to think properly before he spoke. "That is, are you going to be okay?"
