While Jean would readily admit to his childhood being fairly idyllic, it was hardly a fairy story. But he'd not trade it for a moment, especially for her distant family. That sounded awful. And made him all the more eager to share her with his own family. He'd been thrilled when Nathan had stopped by on his summer holiday, but he knew it was partially because Maman had demanded it.
They'd just have to take a holiday to England sometime. He wanted to introduce her to his family. They'd adore her and then she could finally know what it was to have a proper family around. That and he wanted to show her his home and share the beauty of it with her.
Jean returned her kiss quite willingly, although he tried to keep it brief and chaste for now. They could kiss properly when they were alone in their room.
Her request had the blood rushing to his face and well, other places. He groaned in half-hearted protest, not at the request itself, but at all the lovely implications behind it.
"Dieu," he rasped as he buried his face in her throat to stave off the lightheaded feeling he was getting. She had a terrible effect on him.
All right, enough of this nonsense. They were on holiday, they were supposed to be enjoying it. Besides, he rather liked to play her knight errant. It was fun.
Crouching a bit, he slipped one arm behind her knees and the other firmly across her back, scooping her up into his arms. He gave her a cheeky grin. "All right," he agreed as he carried her towards the doors. Az wasn't all that heavy, and he lugged around saddles and tack and horses all day long. As long as she didn't completely ruin his concentration, he could do this.
