Good God, he hoped he never took the relationship between his family for granted. Ever. If anything, having Az in his life had likely made him appreciate it more.
And while she didn't find it as bad or strange, he couldn't help but think of it as at least strange. Yes, yes, her dad was a busy man. But too busy to even see his daughter? Rubbish, that's what that was. He'd not say it out loud though. Especially today.
Maman was very French. He'd barely spoken English except to his father until he was old enough to be battled off to school. Hence his slip. Also, he wasn't certain why, but cursing in French didn't seem as vulgar. Or at least, sounded less vulgar.
No, it wasn't remotely bloody okay. While he knew none of this was his fault and there wasn't likely a thing he could do to make it better (no matter what gifts she attributed to him), it didn't make him feel any less for her. And her family, in a way. They were people with feels as well. Jean just pressed a kiss to the top of her head, to keep from saying anything daft and upsetting her more.
Jean was all too happy about the idea of distracting her from this mess. Although that wicked little smile instantly set his cheeks to heading for blazing red and blood threatening to rush indecent places.
"Why not all?" he mused. "Brekky in bed, the taken in the cinema?" Yes, he even managed that with a straight face. He was turning crimson, mind. But that would likely take up the better part of the day, which was what they were going for here.
