There were just some places, some topics in life where you tended to take things for granted. Or, rather, each person had their own area of things that simply 'were' and were not questioned that they could or should be any different. Az never really thought about the fact that she had been raised with money, never had to worry about her paycheck stretching far enough for her needs, or that she should not splurge on a little something shiny in case she needed money for something in an emergency. Really, she did not think that he had ever think of what his relationship with his family would be like if they were like the remains of hers.
Even if she had the power to, she would never, not in a thousand years, change that his family was not like hers. Not that she particularly thought of the relationships between herself, her aunt, mother and father were particularly bad or strange. They just were, and that was all there was to it.
Jeb's embrace smoothed away some of the sting, of the situation, of everything. It always did, it was as if it was one of his special gifts. Making Everything Better.
Despite her own feelings on the subject, as conflicted and confusing as they were, Az snorted indelicately at just how...French he sounded. Something as everyday as her boyfriend reminding her beyond the accent, that his father may have been British (as Jeb was by birth), but his mother was supposed to be very French.
"It's okay," she murmured right back, even though they both knew it wasn't okay. It was just that Jeb did not have anything to be sorry for, blame did not really enter into the equation, not really. Doubtful that any one of the parties involved would purposefully want to deal with non-existent family ties as well as a looming health crisis. Az did not know if she would go in to be testing, not yet, she had to let it soak into something besides a kind of shock.
With a shrug of her shoulders, the tangled knot of thoughts and emotions was tempting to simply put away to be dealt with soon, rather than immediately. "Can we, can we do something, you know, normal? Eat breakfast, or go see what they are playing in the theatre?" For a moment a wicked little smile bloomed, "Or we could go back to our room..." Something to take her mind off of her father, of kidneys, and of family in general.
