Aileen waited a moment before responding to Emily. It wasn't that she didn't believe Emily, but she was surprised. She herself had been raised Protestant, but she left that life the moment she moved away from her parents. She couldn't cling to something that she didn't truly believe in. She wouldn't cling to something that didn't accurately reflect her values. Though this made it clear that the lovely Emily wasn't someone for her, and thank goodness she knew now, she was glad to have met a nice person who could potentially become a new friend.
"I hope I didn't offend you." She started. It was the truth. It wasn't that she was sorry for asking the question, it was that she truly would be sorry to offend Emily in this case. "I have to admit I'm jealous." She continued, not bothering to hide her thoughts. "It seems people who are at peace with their faith are often at peace with life." She smiled. "I'm not religious at all, but I hope you'll still want to have lunch with me tomorrow."
