There was a series of short nods in response, "/Completely. I just finished two days before we left port. I think I slept about half the cruise away already./" This was the first time in about twenty-two years that Jack been not enrolled in some level of school. His solid memories began about pre-school, so he could not literally really remember a time when he was not in school. It would take awhile to really sink in, he thought, that he was done with it. The last six years alone had just been in college, four for his bachelor's degree and two more for his master's.
Miguel pulled out a photograph, and even before he saw what the image held, Jack could guess what it was. His brother-in-law was just one of those guys who wore their love for their family as a badge of honor for all to see. Something that Jack could both respect and admire.
He carefully took the picture, following Miguel's example as to the level of care it should be regarded with, and looked at the captured still figures. If it had been physically possible, his grin would have widened more, but to do so would have required something painful. It seemed in the cards that the near constantly smiling Jack would end up wearing layer upon layer of smile lines in his old age, but he did not mind in the least.
"/They're beautiful,/" he noted with utter honesty. Not simply physically, although they were, but also from the sheer amount of love that one image held. "/Congratulations. She looks just like her mother./" Jack looked up at Miguel. "/What's her name?/"
