Lisa looked up at the unexpected new arrival. She had been sitting at the table by herself, and when the Captain had started his story, she thought that she would spend the evening sitting alone. And that was OK with Lisa, because she had worried that she might end up having to share the table with some boorish drunk, or some lecherous guy who just wanted to bed her and then forget her. Still, it was a little lonely. So she was a bit surprised when a pleasant-looking young woman sat down across from her near the end of the Captain's story. The girl gave Lisa a little smile, and then looked down at the table. She wasn't sure why, but Lisa liked the girl. Perhaps it was because she sensed a feeling of awkwardness or uncertainty coming from the girl that echoed how she herself felt.
And now the Captain's story was finished, and the food had been served. The other girl at the table still hadn't said anything. Lisa let a couple more minutes pass, and then she smiled at the girl and held out her hand. "Hi! I'm, uh, I'm Lisa."
