A smile had appeared on her face at his jest, knowing that it really didn't take much to get her tipsy. It remained there, frozen, after he stopped speaking, then it slowly faded away.
Why was she surprised? She had known CJ wasn't hers. After all, the only reason she'd gone to his room was to beat Lisa to the punch. And she'd been fine with that. She had accepted it.
But, somehow, something more had crept up inside her. Puppy love was insidious -- it gave no warning and, yet, it was so easily crushed. She'd felt something between them, and, for some reason, she'd thought that would be enough...
But who was she kidding? It was the perfect end to a perfect day of everything going wrong.
Her lips curved into a sarcastic smile. "You know," she began, slinging her arms over her stomach. It was a protective gesture, as if she could wrap herself in her arms and make the world around her stop. "I'm usually not so easy. I just totally wanted to score with you before Lisa did. I don't date men who screw cheerleaders."
Part of her was perfectly aware that she was rambling a bit, but she couldn't quite make herself care. God, she really was a lightweight, wasn't she?
