Riley had been bright and beaming to the girl next to her on the treadmills at the gym. Unfortunately, she’d also been blissfully unaware that the girl was trying so hard to keep up with her pace. Riley had had her ear buds in, was just focusing on the pumping and encouraging pop music blaring through. Back in New Haven, Riley did a lot of her running outside in the nice fresh air and didn’t bother much with gyms. On a big boat, the options were a little more limited, so the gym became the choice du jour. It beat the heck out of running around on the ships deck in her sports bra and training pants.
Once she’d finished up her half hour in the gym, Riley made her way to Cyamites. The best place on the ship, as far as she was concerned. Her MP3 was already tucked in the bag she was dragging around, but she hadn’t bothered to change out of her gym gear. If there was one thing Riley wasn’t ashamed or abashed about, it was her body. Walking into Cyamites, Riley headed straight for the counter, waving excitedly at the familiar barista who already knew her by name. She’d had to correct her after continuously referring to Riley as “Tech Girl.”
When she bent to look at the freshly baked muffins, Riley made an “mmm!” noise before noticing that the girl also looking at the muffins was her neighbour at the gym. “Hey!” She said brightly. “I think we must have been destined to meet or something.” She chuckled with a warm grin, and pointed at the double double chocolate chip cupcake. “Now that looks good. After working out so hard, I think we should indulge, don’t you?”
