"You could say that," Lynne agreed. There was probably things going through Noah's mind that Lynne couldn't even try to imagine, because Matthew hadn't ever been sent into battle. By the time 9/11 had happened, he had already been higher up on the food chain, as it were, than that. He'd never gone to Iraq while they were together, at least... But she did know some things. Mostly by second-hand accounts, but she had a pretty good idea to which demons Noah was referring.
"Don't get me wrong," Lynne said quickly. "I'm not really in a place where I like being around people a whole lot - no offense, I'm enjoying your company - so, I don't really mind traveling alone this time. It just gets old when it's all the time," she said with a look that told him there was no need to apologize.
The laugh she gave at his remark was equally short and sarcastic. "Yeah, a real barrel of laughs. Hey, at least we're dumping on each other instead of bringing other people down, huh?" she teased. "So what brings you on the ship? I needed a vacation that didn't include sleeping on my little brother's bed and hanging out with my parents, for a change," she offered with a smirk.
