Samantha thought about saying it again, how she didn't know anyone else who had it happen, but decided against it. She was more distracted by the confused look Jamie gave her, and the flare of panic she felt inside based on her own statement. Would he ask why she knew that kind of depression? Of their own will memories floated to the forefront of her mind. Without realizing it her expression became just as panicked as she felt inside at that moment as she remembered. That is, until Jamie cleared his throat and brought her attention back to the present. Her expression calmed slightly, but her heart was beating too fast and she knew she was breathing a little shallowly, which made her wish that a hole would open up and swallow her. She wished she could just forget.
It took her several seconds to actually comprehend what he'd said, and then Samantha gave a shaky smile. "Yeah, well I mean no, not really. I just worked really hard. I think my family thinks I overdo it sometimes," she explained softly not looking at Jamie, "and maybe I do. But I like school."
