Tucking her hair behind her ears, Lynne gave a small, sheepish smile when he spoke. "I suppose," she agreed. "But the difference is...people read the paper every day. They come in for a haircut a couple times a year," she pointed out with a small smirk.
When he said it was all right that she'd asked and then went on to answer her question anyway, in spite of the fact that she'd tried to take it back, she relaxed a little and nodded her understanding and sympathy. "Yeah, me too," she replied, dragging her fry through the ketchup again absently as she spoke. "And I'm nowhere near as far away from home," she added. While he was still looking down, she popped the French fry into her mouth.
Smiling slightly, Lynne blushed again and wrinkled her nose. "I needed a vacation," she admitted. "Bad." She didn't know if he was trying to be charming, but he was, in any case. Maybe it was the accent. "I never win anything, though, so it's so weird that I won...you know...this," she added with a vague, one-handed gesture meant to convey the ship as a whole.
Her eyes meandered back up to his from where they'd rested on her food. "How about you? Did you win it or did you get assigned?" she asked.
