Lynne groaned reflexively when she awoke. Please, God, she thought to herself before opening her eyes, no more seasickness...
All she’d wanted was a change. A chance to get away from her life just for a little while. When her friend, Casey, had shot her an email with a link to some webpage that she could go to to enter herself into a contest for a free cruise, Lynne had jumped at it. She never won anything, with the exception of having won an iPod in a raffle once a few years ago, so she hadn’t exactly been expecting to get a ticket in the mail, but she’d practically peed her pants in excitement when she had received it. Finally, a vacation. Lynne hadn’t had a proper vacation in years. Most of her paid vacations were spent going home to spend a week with her family or road-tripping with Casey, but she’d never been on a cruise and had been beyond excited to give it a go.
The only problem had been, well...the jetlag had wiped her out and if that wasn’t enough, she’d gotten seasick. If she was honest, she’d always thought seasickness was bullshit or only manifested itself in super wimps, if it was real. If that was so, then she was definitely a super wimp, because she’d spent the first four hours of the voyage with her head in the toilet and had spent the remainder of the trip so far going back and forth between the bathroom and the bed.
Today, for the first time since she’d gotten on the ship, Lynne felt like her normal self and she intended to finally take advantage of her luck. After failing to get a connection when trying to call her mother and being unable to get the computer in her room to sign her properly into her instant messengers or emails, she decided she might as well take a shower, get dressed, and have something to eat since her stomach was finally settled.
“All right, room, I’m sure I’ll be back later,” she muttered with a small smirk of amusement as she shut the door behind herself and looked back and forth down the hall. “Here goes nothing...”
She looked down at the map in her hands and headed toward the nearest flight of stairs. She'd decided, after having looked at the brochure, that she wanted to hit Thalia's Diner. 50's style sounded like fun...and at the same time, a little familiar, like the Johnny Rocket's diner a few miles up the road from the salon she worked in. Sometimes, she and the girls would go there for a bite and the atmosphere was always fun...even if she did pity the poor souls who had to sing and dance for the diners. How embarrassing...
The interior made her smile. It looked like it came straight out of a movie set or something. She crossed the room and went straight for the jukebox, looking through the selection. Ohhhh...they had Buddy Holly! Grinning as she bit her bottom lip and crinkled her nose, she made the selection and then headed for the counter, taking a seat. Maybe something simple for now, like French fries or a chicken sandwich until she was sure that her stomach was completely settled.
