If there was one thing that annoyed Cath, it was having his orders, no matter how they were presented, utterly ignored. He'd told Emily she needed to spot for the rescuers because it was her or the near hysterical Abbie. And while he was beginning to wonder if a frazzled little girl would be better at it than Emily, that wasn't the point.
"I can't swim," he told Ronnie. "So I'm not going. I'll just be a liability." He turned his attention back to Emily. "And they'll need a spotter on the ship, who can see both positions. I can't used these because I can't see a bloody thing closer than arm's length away without my glasses. Which I've forgotten. That leaves you or the girl. Now stop arguing with us and do your bloody job before the boat goes under completely."
