Peter glanced at Cath, giving him a gentle pat on the shoulder as he followed Sean out the door. He understood how the man felt to some degree, although he himself had never lost a wife. But he had lost men and he had lost his God, and the Not Knowing was worse than Knowing that they had died.
But it wasn't the same as a wife, and he knew it.
So, the pat was all he had to offer.
Outside the office, Peter assumed the lead. Despite being tired -- physically and emotionally -- he kept a fairly steady pace for his age. That steady pace, however, was probably regular walking speed for his entourage and maybe a little slower.
When Sean finally asked his question, Peter glanced at him with a shake of his head. "Nothing I saw...but I didn't touch her." There might have been a head injury or something on her back -- but, given the state of the storeroom, he was sure he would have seen any blood right away on the smooth, cool ground.
