Yeah, they were all screwed up good. On some level, Gor was delighted Slav had understood the Chibi Moon comment -- it caused a small, half-smile to lift the corner of his lips. Mostly, however, it was just true.
At least Slav didn't seem as upset with him anymore. Was Gor deliberately playing this? Somewhat. There were privileges to being the baby of the family -- and the most pathetic as well.
He lifted his eyes to his brother's -- a rare enough gesture on any day -- for just a moment. They were both in pain -- caused by each other. On Slav's end, it had been indirect, though, and he probably didn't really deserve to suffer. The gesture had been only for a moment, but Gor had seen enough.
"They d-don't get it." The stammer was beginning to fade, thank God, except with some of the harder letters. Of all his brothers, Slav understood better, because Slav had something out there in the world... "You had your c-cars. And I-I was g-getting out. I-I was g-going to college. It was all g-going to be diff-different there. Better." He was going to grow up, to talk to women, to do all those things his dysfunctional parents had kept him from. "We're d-doomed. We hated our p-parents, but-but they m-made us stick together. They're g-gone, and we don-don't have that now."
Because someone had to mourn for them. They probably all were, each in his own way, but it often felt as though they had been forgotten, their memories swallowed along with their bodies.
