Peter recognized the anger in Sean's tone and restraint on his face. As expected, Sean was rightfully upset at this turn in events. Ronnie, on the other hand, just looked...confused, perhaps? Puzzled? This, too, was something Peter recognized.
Quietly, grimly almost, Peter stood. His cane hit the floor with a soft thud as he rose, broad-shouldered and solemn. The Chapel was his territory, and he was at home here as he was in no other place. God was the ultimate master of this place -- but Peter, as a priest, had every right to speak for Him here.
And to defend His followers.
In silence, he crossed the aisle and moved to stand beside Mae in order to add his presence to theirs. It was a silent testament to his own standing, as well as a reminder to both Sean and Ronnie where they were. This was not the place for violence -- it was a place for reflection, honest, and sanctuary...
Like Mae, Peter would defend Cath if it came to that. Unlike Mae, who would likely lash out with the intent to kill (or at least seriously hurt), Peter meant to restrain Sean if it came down to it. He was seventy-five, true, but Sean's own past and his respect for the Lord would do the rest...and, if it didn't, perhaps Ronnie could be convinced to lend a hand.
