Peter had settled down on a pew to watch Cath's pacing. He was too old to be so frantic, he reflected, although, too, he wasn't the one in the hot seat. Cath and Mae, however, were, and so they had the right to act in whatever way they felt would make them feel better.
Today, Peter's role would be in a simple advisory capacity. For as long as they remained in the Chapel, Cath and Mae would be under his protection. He would let no harm come to them, physical or spiritual. The House of God was meant to be a sanctuary, and Peter would uphold that tradition. If, however, Sean demanded they be arrested, well, then that was lawful and proper, and there was nothing Peter could do to stop it -- nor would there be a reason to by the laws of God or the laws of man.
Nevertheless, Peter would do anything he could to convince Sean and Ronnie that their confession changed nothing about them -- they were still good people who were trying to help the passengers and staff aboard the ship.
