Cath chuckled softly, nodding. "I'll bet it does," he agreed. And he hadn't meant to treat Father Peter like an old man. It was more of a respect thing, as he had a great deal of respect for the man, both for his vocation and his personality.
"Someone was married?" he asked. Not that it was any of his business. His first instinct was it was poor timing, but then, if he and Mae weren't already married and on this cruise to Hell, he'd probably do the same. "That's lovely. I pray they get to have a honeymoon that's not on this ship." That was the best wishes he could give them right now.
Very private. Cath nodded and followed the priest, closing the door as instructed. He didn't sit, he was a bit too edgy for that. Instead, he leaned against the door, folding his arms over his chest.
"First off, I want to apologize for my bad behaviour at the braintrust meeting," he said. "It's very poor form to ask someone's advise and ignore it in favour of squabbling like children. I'm sorry to have been a part of that, Father."
That was just as important as the topic he needed advise on. Really, he respected the priest very much and didn't want him to think that he didn't. He had been wound up and his hot Irish temper had gotten the better of him.
As for the matter he was mulling over, might as well get to it. "I think I should tell them the truth," he said, then shook his head. "Not all of them, that'd start a bloody riot. But Sean and Ronnie. They've put so much trust and confidence in me, I feel wrong about continuing the lie."
He reached up and pinched the bridge of his nose, letting out a heavy sigh. "But I'm afraid of undoing all the good I've done with that confession. Bloody hell, they're Americans. They've had eight years of anti-terrorist propaganda shoved down their throats. God only knows what they'll think if I do tell them. Or worse still, figure it out before I can."
It was a dilemma. Which is why he was coming to the one person who knew and he could trust to give him an unbiased opinion. Mae didn't have any unbiased opinions. It was just her way.
