And then Amadeus had let this city still suck them in with the hunters that had come. With the destruction and aftermath of losing Elysium. Let himself be distracted by that and by people pointing out to him other responsibilities and matters of court that were supposed to be his problems. For a moment he had listened. He had actually considered them his problems.
Because of it all he had almost failed in his most important promise. The only promise that mattered. The one he had made to Ariel when he asked him to stay and be with him: that he would not let him die. Yet hadn't that had almost been what had happened on Halloween? How very close he had come to losing Ariel as he had tried to be a distraction so that Amadeus could do his damn bloody job as Sheriff.
It had proven too that while Ariel was Amadeus's saving grace, the one thing that made him hang on to his humanity at all, he could also be this city's final damnation as well. It had proven just what demon lurked beneath his skin only held in check by one blue wolf eyed angel.
No more. Ash was right. Run before the city killed them both. Or before Amadeus ended up being the reason it burned down around them.
His mood had not been great since then. He had tried to not be clinger than usual to Ariel. But today as soon as Ariel got out of the shower he was dragging the Gangrel with him into the living room and pulling him down onto the sofa with him before plucking his laptop off of the coffee table so they could both look at what he had been going over.
"We're doing this. We can other decide on a place this way, or we book tickets and head out to some B&B to stay until you find one you like. I don't care how you want to do it, but we are."
