MASQUERADE

Distraction? What distraction?
This is simply a party for the New York Kindred!

Garnet rented out one of the fanciest ballrooms in the city for this event. Grand staircase entrance? Check. Gold gilding everywhere? Check. Blood from the bag and vein? Check. If someone doesn't have a mask, the hostess has many spares, all curated from either her personal collection or friends from the Paris court. Ghouls and human thralls are invited as well.

Requested dress code is anything dressy from the kindred's era. If not, a suit will do just fine. Be as overstated as you wish! In need of something sparkly to go with your look? The hostess also has you covered!

All Elysium rules apply.

Vampires all over the city wake the evening of the 19th to an elegant invitation with the details to the party set for an hour after sunset. At the bottom, in block font instead of script, is Garnet's contact information, just in case of questions. Of course, in her true fashion, the paper is framed in a sparkle that, thankfully, doesn't come off like real glitter. From all accounts, it looks like something that was in the plans for months, rather than the few short days it took. Once a Toreador has a project in their hands, they don't let go, so to speak. One is even sent to the Prince and Primogen, in case they decide to make an appearance.

While there is a DJ, there will also be a string band in attendance. Both will take requests. Dance, drink, be merry. Not too merry, of course, there are eyes everywhere, watching and waiting. © tessisamess

	Ariel does not wear anything from his era fuck you Garnet. Lmao However, he does wear a carefully chosen outfit and a full face mask to keep his identity mostly in shadows. And he definitely spends a lot of time being shadowed by the Sheriff... Suspicious. (Reply to this) (Parent)

Amadeus was not about to go and wear anything from his era. Sorry, Garnet, he has a certain level of style to live up to. Which ended up oddly enough being this red silk shirt and black vest with a tailcoat jacket that matched the vest all of which seems to be the reverse color scheme of the mysterious Kindred he can be spotted with throughout the night. His own mask doesn't hide away who he is—as if the manner of dress and hair (complete with red streaks in it for the night) didn't give it away anyway.

	Anastasia did wear something from her era. This imperial Russian ballgown that was just made to go down those staircases. Her mask complete the regal look with her pale hair twisted up in a knot at the back of her neck. (Reply to this) (Parent)

After his fumblings and failures earlier in the week, Felix wasn't actually in the mood to attend a party. Even one as full of dramatic and stunning sights as this one was bound to be. However, he isn't one to ignore invitations from real vampires, so he put on a tailored red suit and a domino bauta mask and came on down! Covering his face might make it easier to sell the lie that he isn't still an anxious mess. This is fine.

The notion of taking part in a more literal masquerade seemed a bit absurd to Kjell, both because he can alter how he's perceived at will with his advanced Obfuscation and because his frame would immediately give him away no matter what he covered his face with. He, therefore, opted out of wearing a mask. He did, however, indulge Garnet's request and come dressed in modernized Norwegian bunad. Don't say he's never done anything for you, Garnet.

	Dominique loved the fashion when she was embraced and the only problem was in what she would choose. She finally decided on her blue court dress and a stunning blue mask. Here in the middle of a crowded ballroom, it was the first that Julian had felt grounded since coming to New York that wasn't a time when he was leaning on Leo to do so. This was his element. Here he knew what he was doing. He had a purpose and while the whispers might push in upon him more with this many people around they were easier to deal with because he could focus them, use them to his advantage.

Among the Kindred of New York he could pick through the whispers and sort out those he could tell were connected to certain Kindred, root out the secrets about them that were brushing up against his mind. Some of it was useful and some of it was no better than listening to the gossip that floated around Elysium. And every now and then he may let his mental fingers slip into the minds of weaker Kindred so that he could pluck out even more secrets. Their ghouls and human thralls were even easier pickings, their minds so much easier to slip into. It was child's play almost and after a week of feeling untethered and lost, his moods and emotions a never-ending rollercoaster, it felt good to whisper back into someone else's mind and watch the unease in their eyes.

Even now, Julian couldn't help the predatory glim in his eye as he looked around the ballroom, his head tilted ever so slightly as he listened to things only he could hear, pairing what whispers he could with who they were about.

Behind you.

One whisper louder than the rest that caused him to turn around and look.

Ariel had arrived late after a long, internal debate about attending at all. Masquerades weren't really his thing and he certainly wouldn't be doing any networking with the full-coverage mask - at least not as well as he might be without it. Still, he had eventually arrived and made a quiet entrance. He was not the only Kindred hiding their entire face, he noticed, and he likely wouldn't be the last. Good, there would be just a hint less gossip.

Haha, who was he kidding? Considering that shortly after his arrival and acquisition of a drink, he had rather quickly found himself making excuses to be around Amadeus as much as possible. The Harpies were going to have a fucking field day. Who was that man hogging all of the Sheriff's attention? What were those little touches about? Who was under the mask? Who? Who? Who?

It was only a good half-hour into the masquerade that Ariel started complaining. "This fucking mask is sticking to my face. I think it's sweating," he muttered under his breath but refused to take it off. He lifted it just enough to feel a line along his cheek, "Ah, good, it's cutting into my skin. What a fucking cheapass..." he trailed off, grumbling.
