When Riley had arrived on the island everyone had just gone missing, and that apparently had included his roommate. While he left everything alone he did find himself a bit curious as he moved in. Having carefully and not too intrusively looked around the apartment Riley had figured some things out about his roommate.
First and foremost she seemed to be a girl, which would be interesting since there was apparently only one bed, though if he thought about it less awkward if she had been a man. While Riley was not one to judge anyone, he didn't have those kinds of feelings towards men so he was thrilled that she was a girl. The other thing he seemed to notice was that she had a lot of books on magic. As he looked them over not many of them made much sense to him, but he usually tried to steer clear of the magicks and leave that to people like Willow.
The other thing that kind of freaked Riley out was that it seemed that all of her pictures moved. While most pictures that he had ever posed for had remained still, that being the point of them in his eyes, this girls photographs moved and he swore even spoke to him. He didn't of course ask anyone about this because Riley was certain that he was losing his mind and he didn't want to seem insane. Riley decided to avoid the moving pictures and focus on some of the less confusing things.
As time passed and she never came back to the room Riley decided to stop being so nosey and start getting comfortable on the island. He had found a job and jumped right into work searching for the missing people and stopping others from being taken.
This went on for weeks until finally a break had been made and the hiding place of the man kidnapping people had been found. Riley was right there ready to help anyone and while he recognized some of them, or just one, but he didn't say anything to her for the moment. Their time to talk would come later, for now he needed to help get people to safety. As he helped the captives get out of their chains and any other restraining factors put upon them by the insane kidnapper he came across none other than his roommate.
From the moment he met her Riley was certain he had to stay with her and keep her safe. The moment they released Kyra from the hospital, Riley insisted on taking her back to the apartment and helping her get settled and then he would break it to her that they were roommates.
