“Daddy!” | |
“Hey Kev, how are you?” | |
“I'm okay.” | |
“Just okay? How come?” | |
“Mom says I need a tutor for maths this summer.”
“Are you having a hard time with it?”
“No... maybe. You should help me but mom says you're always busy.”
“Yeah... I'm sorry kiddo, with work and all.”
"It's okay, you're catching bad guys.”
“That's right, but I still miss you.”
“Me too. Can you visit? I'm out of school now.”
“Didn't we just... Your mom wouldn't like me just stopping by.”
“I could promise to be nice to the tutor if you can visit!”
“You should be nice to the tutor anyways. Then you can beat everyone in math.”
“Yeah, but it won't be the same.”
“What won't?” | |
“My friends won't be at the new school.”
“I didn't know you were changing schools.”
“Yup! This one has a uniform! I'll send you a picture when mom picks it up.”
“I'd like that - you sounded pretty excited about it right there.”
“I get to wear a tie like you! Can I get a badge too? Mom says no toy guns are allowed.”
“Real guns shouldn't be allowed either, but Jesus kid, don't tell me you want to be a cop.”
“Why not? You're one, grandpa's one, Uncle Jasper's one, Uncle Dominic...”
“That doesn't mean you have to be one, Kev.”
“But then I'd stop bad guys from hurting people...”
“Hey, don't grow up too quickly on me. You have a long time before you have to make a decision.”
“Okay...” | |
“But I'll see about that badge. Now don't worry about the new school.”
“No? Not even a little?”
"Maybe a little, but you'll do great - you'll make new friends and stay in touch with your old ones.”
“I will do that! I can always video chat.”
“You'll also rock that uniform. And math.”
*laughs* | |
“Seriously Kev, it'll be okay, and you can talk to me about it.”
“Okay. ...But the tutor!”
“As I said, play nice. Be a good cop.”
“Like you're a good cop?”
“I try...” | |
“I still want to see you!”
“Me too kiddo. Let me talk to your mom about it.”
“Okay.” | |
“Now do you have anything fun planned?”
“I'm going to swim camp again! And we're going to the beach this weekend.”
“So you've grown gills, huh? The beach sounds pretty nice right about now.”
*laughs* "No gills!” | |
“Should I get a pool for whenever you can visit me?”
“Yeah! But my favorite part would be seeing you.”
“Me too kiddo. There's always public pools too, or maybe I could rent a place on the Cape.”
“Like we used to?” | |
“How come you remember that?”
“I have pictures, and mom tells me when I ask about them... Dad?”
“Yeah?” | |
“I want a waterproof camera for my birthday.”
“You got it.” | |
“I sent you a present for Father's Day - to grandpa too, for his birthday.”
“Thanks kiddo. You didn't have to.”
“Yeah I did! I'll be at the beach so I won't get to call... and mom says it's fitting, since it's boring like you.”
*chuckles* “That does sound like your mother...”
“I didn't get it... I like it and hope you do too!”
“I'm sure it'll be my favorite.”
“And I sent pictures - and drawings since you asked for more last time.”
“Good memory. I'll love those too.”
“Send me pictures, okay?”
“You know I can't draw worth anything.”
*laughs* "Photographs! Or I'll swim to Boston!”
“Oh, so you're an Olympic athlete all of a sudden?”
“Maybe after camp!” | |
“Aim high kiddo.” | |
*grins* | |
“Can you be patient for me though? I'm working on something that might let me see you soon.”
“Is it a case?” | |
“No, I'm working on one of those too but... How would you like to spend holidays with me?”
“I want to!” | |
“Okay. Good.” *smiles* "I'll make that happen. I will."
“I'll be patient! But no pinkie promises..."
“That's okay.” | |
“Uhoh - Mom's doing that thing when she wants me to get off the computer.”
“The flail thing?” | |
“Yeah.” | |
“You better go so you don't get me in trouble.”
*laughs* “Okay. Love you Dad.”
“Love you too Kev.” | |
