Who: Arthur and Dominic
What: Conversing at the charity dinner.
When: Sunday, May 8; evening
Where: The Redwater Grille
Rating: Low
(people file to their assigned tables, preparing to be served dinner.)
Arthur: Well, well. It appears they decided to put me at the VIP table tonight. Arthur Mortis. I'm representing Mayor Wilde.
Dominic: Lieutenant Dominic Wright. Please give Mayor Wilde my regards on behalf of the Boston Police Department.
Arthur: (smiling subtly) I certainly will, Leiutenant. (pause) I've heard about you before. Something about the youngest Lieutenant in BPD history? I'm sure you're very proud.
Dominic: I am, thank you. (nods) There were others more experienced, and thus more qualified, for the position, but I like to believe I got it because of my dedication to the department and Boston. That hasn't failed me yet. (small, humoring smile)
Arthur: (eyes shift further down the table, to Carly) Mm. And politics plays a role, I'm sure. (smirk) I should know. (idly) Enough dedication and hard work and you'll be running the department one day, I expect.
Dominic: As always. (smile fades to neutral.) That's the plan, once Chief O'Shea retires. I look forward to working more closely with Mayor Wilde. I imagine he'll have no trouble remaining in office for that long with the work he's been doing.
Arthur: Well I can tell you right now that Mayor Wilde is certainly lookfing forward to working more closeley with you. (looking toward the partition) Mm. (with a hint of surprise) That powered chef really knows what he's doing.
Dominic: (beat of silence) He seems to, but the smart glass is there for a reason. Even dominant evos lose control, and wouldn't that be unfortunate.
Arthur: (slow smirk) With all these people here? It certainly would. I must admit I don't know many dominants myself. They're supposed to be more common in Boston but they blend in so well. (looking at Dominic) Although I suppose you encounter evos of all kinds in your profession.
Dominic: Most often on the wrong side of the law, but there are evos who use their skills to fight crime. Unique problems have arisen because of that in the past, as you may have heard, but we try our best to hire any qualified body. Mayor Wilde has done a lot to ensure that.
Arthur: Really? How interesting. I was always under the impression that law enforcement attracted rather a lot of that kind. Ah, yes. Problems. The mayor was certainly upset to hear about the Powers scandal. (light chuckle) Such an unfortunate name for an evo. Apparently what is bad for the department is good for the city, however. The mayor's poll numbers have been up ever since Miss Keating's arrival in Boston.
Dominic: (regards Arthur with interest) Is that so? Special Agent Keating has made a ... fascinating addition to our department. (pause) She's received mixed reviews, but if anyone can weather that storm it's Keating. She should still be here if you have any interest in speaking with her.
Arthur: Indeed. Much of his base consists of pro-evo young people, and you can imagine how thrilled they were to be able to say that the famed Rosa Keating is living in their very own city. They seem disappointed that they haven't run into her on the street or anything, but that as long as Chase is up in the polls, that's all I care about. (interested) Mixed reviews? What kind of mixed reviews?
Dominic: I can imagine. (mild amusement) Agent Keating is good at her job, and her job is to investigate tender areas for some people - evos and naturals alike. Others applaud her efforts. She's been very cooperative.
Arthur: (equally amused) Well that's the most positive review I've heard of her so far. You must work well with her
Dominic: (thoughtful) I do. (regards Arthur silently at length, until a hand lands on his shoulder and an older man inserts himself between them, talking praise over the event, and the evo cook specifically. with one last glance at his dinner companion, Dominic allows himself to be otherwise engaged once more)
