    Happy Birthday, Cedric! (fic prompts)
Deathly Hallows is out, there's new canon, new-generation love, and Cedric had his moment in the sun in Goblet of Fire. But he's still my boy and I do miss reading the Cedric-fic. (huggles him)

As we know, in order to enter the Triwizard Tournament, Cedric had to have been born sometime after September 1st but before October 31st. I thought I'd toss out some prompts in celebration -- see if it stirs up any creative juices. :-)

Two months.* Four prompts. Grab one if it tickles your fancy.

Remember, Cedric Diggory (and all that)

    1) Cedric survived the Triwizard Tournament … because he didn't enter his name in the first place.
I've always been intrigued by the fact Cedric doesn't seem like the "eternal glory" sort of fellow. Did he enter to please his parents? His housemates? Cho? All of the above? What if he put his foot down and decided "eternal glory" wasn't his cuppa? Ruminations at the time, or 20 years later -- what became of the Champion who wasn't?

    2) Harry plucked up his courage and asked Cho to the Yule Ball before Cedric … and she said yes.
Take it and run in any direction you like: he's heartbroken, he's mildly disappointed but not crushed, or he had his eye on somebody else all along.

    3) Cedric and Luna as friends, or even substitute-siblings.
Like the Weasleys, the Diggorys and Lovegoods live near Ottery-St.-Catchpole, but the Weasley kids always had each other. Cedric and Luna are (apparently) only children. Did they play together as kids? Did Cedric act as Luna's big brother at Hogwarts? Did Cedric's mum take Luna under her wing? Show them either as children or later at Hogwarts -- whatever floats your boat.

    4) Cedric the prefect vs. Fred and George Weasley the pranksters.
They're in the same year, if not the same house. Cedric is a prefect. Fred and George … aren't. They also don't seem to like him much. Is it just because Hufflepuff beat Gryffindor at Quidditch? Or is there more to the hostility?

*Yes, it's September 4th, but I thought it safer to wait to post this until after the Labor Day holiday in the U.S.
