Melody was honestly, truly delighted when she heard Topher laugh. She knew she could be extremely silly and childish sometimes, but she firmly believed that life was a lot richer if you kept the wonder that made children's eyes light up. And part of that was remembering how the easy things could sometimes make your heart jump with joy.
She had never been this awkward around Topher before because the fact that she liked him - liked him liked him - had never come up before. He was her friend, and a close one at that. She'd just been terrified that if she said anything hinting in that direction she would ruin that friendship. So she'd just kept it to herself and enjoyed his company whenever she could.
She was almost too caught up in her struggle to find words and not make even more of a fool of herself to see the smile forming on her friend's lips. But when she did, she relaxed a little. And then she heard his response and before she knew what she was doing there was a brilliant smile on her own lips. "Really?" she asked, trying to keep her voice from going too high-pitched. And then she almost panicked again. Would that change anything? Would things get awkward? What was she going to wear tonight?? She shook her head at herself, banishing those thoughts.
"So um...do you want to meet there? Or go together?"
