If Kiely was confused after the Valentine’s Ball and Shane’s complete avoidance of her, the coming and going of the holiday itself made things worse. Her hand unconsciously rose to gently touch the outrageous emerald necklace nestled in the hollow of her throat. She’d made sure to wear it in the hopes that her secret admirer [whom she still thought was Shane] would come forward.
A week come and gone and still nothing.
She should have done this the night that she and Mariah had argued over it. Maybe if she’d just come to talk to Shane that night, she wouldn’t feel as hurt now as she did. At first Kiely had been pissed though not all of it was directed at Shane. Now though…now she just couldn’t understand why she never saw him. He was her brother’s best friend but it was like anytime she was around her brother, Shane had found some other reason to not be in the same place. She felt lied to. And she hated that she felt this way. He was a boy and boys shouldn’t be this damn important.
So now there she stood outside of their dorm. She already knew Trevor wasn’t there, having text him with some random message earlier. A little deception had uncovered that Shane had not gone out with him which left Kiel the opportunity to do what her best friend had been riding her case about for days now. Raising her hand, the freshman left a quick rap on the door and waited for her target to answer.
