week 43 (westworld); day three

Dream & Fen
Day 3 | Sweetwater | PG

Fen decides that Morpheus needs food, since he can't remember the last time he ate. It may have been a few centuries..
⚠ TBD

Day three, things had happened, exciting things, no doubt, but Fen hadn’t been overly involved in them. If anything, she was partially enjoying her time not being a werewolf but also not enjoying how easy it seemed to be to die from bandits here. Also not enjoying not having her knives on her. She was not a gun girl (she had, however, found a trade to conduct where she did get something sharp and pointy at least).

Has she gotten a chance to use it yet? Not quite. She’d been busy trying to pick up more items she could take back to the campus, particularly blacksmithing icons and her chest of belongings were probably brimming with items. She also had to pay for them which meant keeping a bit busy during her days.

When the chance finally came to get a bit of food, Fen took it and walked across Main Street toward the saloon she had decided had the best foods so far (lots of good meat, that was what she went for even with it not being close to the full moon). Once she spotted a familiar being on the same pathway with a very familiar bird on his shoulder, she sped up her pace, trying to at least get within vicinity of hearing distance so she didn’t surprise him.

Not that she had to worry about that because Matthew spotted her first, and she gave him a little wave.

Morpheus felt the corners of his lips twitch in pleasure. Fen, at least, was pleasant company. "It has been... educational," he admitted, somewhat reluctantly. "I admit, I have not had much occasion to consort with mortals. Not upon their terms." The last time... had been when his sister had taken him on an outing. The Tavern of the White Pony, 1386. Upon reflection (and he had been given much, much time to reflect), the encounter had been good for him. Hob Gadling had become a friend, over the centuries. Something he attributed wholly to Gadling himself, and not to Dream's own amicability.

A part of Dream wondered if this enforced contact with mortals would have the same effect.

"I will be glad when the week is through," he continued. "I do miss speaking with Matthew. And I have responsibilities to attend to, even separated from my realm." His head tilted slightly. "You have found work in this place? What is your occupation?"

Fen could related, particularly during the first few days when she was out of Fillory and onto the Earth that her friends knew and lived in. Educational indeed. Her favorite thing about it though was the phones.

"Yes, I did," she answered, reluctantly moving her hand away, ceasing her petting. She couldn't help it, he was such a beautiful bird.

"It's not exactly glamorous, but I decided to help at the general store here in exchange for some money so I can get things I want. Mostly knives. I don't feel comfortable handling guns. And also, maybe just... trying to see how people lived in this time? It's far different from what I had in Fillory. And also, a girl's gotta eat!"

"More knives?" Morpheus looked surprised by that, and bent slightly, reaching into his boot and withdrawing a long dagger, with a hilt of ebony and Spanish steel. He turned it in his fingers and offered it to her. "You may keep this one, should you desire. I've not the skill required to use such implements."

Matthew reached out, as if to nip at Fen's trailing fingers, but shifted and stayed where he was. He let out another soft caw. Dream looked at the raven, and brushed his own fingers against the bird's breast. "Do not let me keep you from your meal, my Lady," he said. As he spoke the words, he placed a hand over his own stomach, frowning as it seemed his innards were curling in on themselves. His belly made an odd noise, between a creak and a roar.

Morpheus lowered his gaze. "Apologies. I... do not understand why it does that."

Fen was fairly certain her love language was gift-giving even gift-making considering the black and red dagger she had made for Natasha during their time in the city in another life. Get more specific and the love language is gift-giving sharp pointy objects. When Morpheus handed the dagger over to her, Fen's eyes widened as big as a grateful golden retriever's. "I do desire! Thank you! Well... only if you're absolutely sure! There's been bandits around and all."

Despite her saying that, Fen was already flipping the dagger expertly in her fingers, getting a feel for the weight and balance of it.

When she heard the belly rumbling, her hands stopped and she looked up at him. "Lord Morpheus, have you... not eaten at all since you got here?"

Morpheus shook his head slightly, fingers raised to indicate he would not be taking the dagger back. "I would not be able to use it, even should one attack. My kind are forbidden from killing mortals unless they pose a dire threat to our function."

Even if he was currently human, it was a poor habit to get into.

At the question, he glanced at her. "I... only eat in dreams. That is what sustains me."

"I will keep it and take good care of it, then," was all she said before she put away the knife, tucking it away in her boot. "And you have been human since two days ago. Unfortunately what sustained you before isn't going to sustain you while you're here."

And Fen was going to hate hearing that he starved to death. Death by bandits, if one had to even die, was kind of the cooler option.

Her hands free now, Fen placed one on his forearm. "Can I take you somewhere to eat? You're going to need food this week. I know the exact place that has more fulfilling and hearty meals." She wouldn't push, of course, but she'd have to strongly urge if she had to. "Your stomach is growling because you're hungry. It's your human body telling you to eat."

Morpheus looked puzzled, then intrigued as she explained. "I admit, I am most unfamiliar with this mortal form. If you are willing..." He offered her his arm. "I would be glad for your company, Lady Fen. I hope you will not find it odd if I am wary or uncertain of what to consume."

His sister often ate mortal food, and it never ceased to puzzle him. But his sister was made of something far more solid than he - Morpheus was a dream, after all, and the waking world had rules that dreams could not obey.

Her heart did a little skip of excitement in this prospect. Fillorian gods had left a terrible taste after all of what she and her friends had dealt with in regards to them. Julia was the only god -- temporary though -- she hadn't want to hit over the head with a hammer. But since landing on Derleth, her opinions had changed with meeting Loki then Thor. There were some gods who just toyed with humans like sociopaths and some who genuinely cared.

Morpheus gave off the latter vibes, and she was only happy to be chosen to help him through this difficult time as being human.

"Don't worry," she said, looping an arm around his. "I know all their good meals, and exactly what you should eat and how you should eat."
