GLEE Assignment #3 - Performances
Who: Will, Bryan, and the Glee Club
Where: The Choir Room
When: Fri. Oct. 19, after classes
What: GLEE Performances - #3
Warnings: TBA
Bryan had made sure to get to the choir room early. Early enough to pick out his spot, leaning against Schuester’s desk, marking his territory. He still couldn’t remember when he had agreed to do this, or why, but it was easier to go along with it, than to fight it. Schuester wanted the kids energized, to put a fighting spirit into them. The only trouble was that all the spirit in the world wouldn’t make up for the fact that they sucked balls.
Will could not believe that Bryan was already in the choir room when he arrived. He knew deep down (although he’d never admit it), he did have fondness for the group. He know Bryan could be handful, but he wanted to be sure it stayed positive. Byran had a tendency to criticize now and ask questions later. Probably result of all the “success” going south on him. How could he get Bryan started on the right foot?.....What better then getting him talking about his favorite subject in the word....himself!
“So I was thinking we could tell the kids a little bit about Hogwarts GLEE back in the day. When we were both in the club during it’s heyday. Boy those were the days...”
Sometimes Bryan wondered if Schuester was ever not a bouncing ray of fucking sunshine. The man had to get pissy occasionally. Bryan silently vowed to get the younger Professor drunk, if just to see the hangover the next day.
"Last time I checked, I was in Glee in it's heyday, and you ended up crashing it into a mountain," Bryan said, barely containing his disdain.
"But sure, I guess that's as good a place to start as any. Show them that this was actually an award winning team, once upon a time."
Students had started to filter in, taking their seats, and Bryan put on his mask of neutrality. As much of an idiot as Shuester was, they were both teachers, and if the kids saw a weakness between them, they would walk all over it.
Just great, thought Will, here we go again with the old “I made Glee great” routine. He should have been used to it by now. Alright, shake it off, he thought a he saw the students arriving, that’s an argument for another time. He noticed the students throwing furtive glances at the guest. This is good, he thought, they are curious.
“Good afternoon gang! I suppose you’ve noticed our guest. Some of you may know Professor Ryan from your Defence Against the Darks Class. But did you know that professor Ryan AND I were both in this Glee club when we went to Hogwarts? Don’t laugh, its true! But not only that, the Glee club were National Champs! So I’ve asked Bryan to come in and talk a little bit about Glee back in the day, and what made it the Championship Club that it was. Bryan?”
Will turned to Bryan, prayed to Merlin and held his breath...
Bryan couldn’t help but notice the stress that Schuester put on their both being a part of Glee ‘back in the day’. All he really remembered was rejecting Will for the first few years he had auditioned, and then tolerating him enough to let him sway in the background for Bryan’s remaining years.
“Your Professor of... what is it?” he glanced in Schuester’s direction, trying not to smile. Muggle Studies wasn’t a real subject, no matter what the school’s board said.
“Anyhow, Professor Schuester is right. When I went to Hogwarts, Glee basically ruled this school. We were the most popular kids, and auditions were so big, we had to cut everyone off at two bars. TWO bars,” he stressed.
“I won’t go into a lot of detail about how, once I left, it deteriorated into the mess we have today. Instead I’ll get right to the point. We were winners, because we wanted it. I’m not feeling the want in this room, right now.”
Hell, half of them looked like they might fall asleep.
Will tried to swallow down the lump in his throat. This wasn’t exactly what he had been planning and it seemed to be going off of the rails.
“I remember when I auditioned for Glee, after not getting in so many times, and I wanted it so bad, “ WIll said. “I practiced hard, and I knew I had nailed it. Afterward, I went up to Bryan, and I told him that I was sure I got in, and he said the most inspiring thing to me that day.”
Bryan looked at Schuester, his forehead creased, as he tried to figure out when the fuck he had said that inspired the most annoying kid in school.
“Don’t you remember?” WIll asked, with excitement in his eyes. “After the audition, I ran up to you on your way out, and I asked ‘So, I’m pretty sure we’re going to be singing together soon, don’t you think?’ and you inspired me to dream.”
A look of comprehension came over Bryan’s face, as the memory finally came to him. Schuester had been a scrawny, pimply faced kid, and Bryan had towered over him at the time. Being seen talking to the kid in public was bad enough, but singing with him was nearly out of the question. He hadn’t meant his words to be inspiring, but Schuester, with all his sunshine and unicorns bullshit, had taken them and run.
“Right,” he drawled, a smirk twisting his lips. “If I remember correctly, I looked down at you and said ‘Dream on, kid.’”
A smooth guitar riff started up behind them, taking Bryan by surprise. He hadn’t agreed to sing anything with Will, fuck no! His impression of the younger man hadn’t really changed from school, but there was no way he was going to let this Hufflepuff show him up. He nearly groaned as he realized the song they were about to sing.
Both men pushed their voices to the limit, making the most of each note and harmony. Bryan could feel his blood begin to pump harder, as he screamed the iconic high part, noting with personal glee that Schuester never had been able to master it. They both gasped for breath, as the song came to a crashing close.
