Prompt/challenge you're answering: Yuuko versus Eriol: battle of wits
Excerpt: He lets himself in. She'd forgotten about the key in the box under the bush and he brushes a leaf from his face as he steps into the shop. He is not empty-handed. He has a bottle tucked under his arm and a pink staff in his other hand.
He shows up at her doorstep in the guise of a lanky teenager, all elbows and awkwardness, but still suave, still Eriol. She won't open the door.
He lets himself in. She'd forgotten about the key in the box under the bush and he brushes a leaf from his face as he steps into the shop. He is not empty-handed. He has a bottle tucked under his arm and a pink staff in his other hand.
She smiles when he walks through the door and his seeming stops. He's twelve again, two feet shorter than the Dimension Witch, and he twitches, obviously unpleased.
"Yuuko-san," he says in Clow's velvet tones.
"No," she says, turning her back to him, daring him to trace the dragon tattoo winding down her back-- it was a new one, one she'd gotten after he'd died, and it glimmered in the light.
"You know why I have come. Must we indulge this tedious battle of wits?"
"No point," she says, glancing over her shouder at him. "You are half the size and surely half as witty."
He didn't blink, but Yuuko knew she'd touched a nerve.
"I'll figure this stasis spell out eventually," he said calmly. "It doesn't affect my negotiation skills."
"We'll see," she replies, gesturing him towards a chair. She studies him as he sits down, with a magical gaze.
"You've given up some of your power."
"As much of it as I dared," he says, reaching for the teaset on the table and pouring two cups. In Yuuko's he adds a dash from the bottle without asking. She takes it without comment.
"There was probably an easier way to do this, rather than making all this mess," she states, sipping at her tea.
"For their sake," he says, not clarifying the "they." Yuuko rolles her eyes.
"You always say that, you false altruist."
"False?" he says, sipping his tea and setting it back on the table.
"You just enjoy the challenge of working these things out," she mutters.
"And will this be sufficient?" he asks, handing her the staff. She runs her fingertips across it and nods.
"Let's make it work, then," he purrs, and they begin negotiation.
