Comets and Meteors
They’d come roaring in on a comet. Or what Duo, with a spacebrat’s instinct, assumed to be a comet since it wasn’t burning up like a meteor or space debris would’ve been. He wasn’t really paying that much attention to it though since he was in the middle of a dogfight against several OZ suits a few hundred feet up in the crisp night air, lit mainly by the fires consuming the base that he, 01, and 04 had managed to destroy.
The concussion from the small comet was less than expected, knocking Deathscythe for a loop although Duo managed to stabilize his friend before they splatted on the ground. Some of the OZ suits he’d been fighting weren’t so lucky. And then the comet stood up, and things went from bad to worse.
There was a roar and Duo saw something move on one of his screens, but was still too occupied with the three remaining suits to pay any attention to it, entrenched in that familiar haze of adrenaline, fear, and joy as he swung his scythe at the suit trying to come up on his left.
It was only when something dark and vaguely human-shaped slammed into the suit in front of him that his attention started to refocus.
Suddenly he could hear 04 yelling over the com about joining forces to fight ‘it’, whatever ‘it’ was.
When Zechs started yelling the same thing not a second later, redirecting all fighters towards the glowing thing with way too many limbs, Duo felt almost cheated as his opponents broke off the fight.
The human shaped thing with what Duo vaguely thought was a hanglider of some kind suddenly didn’t have the hanglider anymore, and was falling quickly.
Not even stopping to think, Duo plunged down and over a few dozen meters, catching the dark thing – it was a person after all – in Deathscythe’s open hand. The outside com vaguely brought the sound of metal screeching against metal as the guy scrambled to hold on.
Duo thudded to the ground, his passenger barely managing to cling fast, and made a snap decision. Opening Deathscythe’s hatch, he brought the massive hand with its passenger close.
“Hey!” He yelled out at the black-and-red blot against the fiery horizon.
“J-Jenova!” the figure yelled, pointing at the glowing thing that was doing its best to carve a swath through the OZ suits and 04 – and seeing OZ and Gundams working together was the weirdest sight ever.
The cockpit wasn’t exactly built for passengers, but if the guy folded himself up real small.. “Wanna hitch a ride? We could use some info on that thing!” Duo shouted to be heard over the roars and explosions.
The guy looked out over at the battle, and Duo followed his gaze. Someone was jumping around the glowing monster, looking like a gnat on speed in comparison to it and the massive mobile suits, but it was carrying a great big hunk of steel that might have been a sword, and was apparently doing the most damage.
The guy grunted, and Duo found himself with suddenly much less space in his cockpit.
“Okay,” Duo grinned as he snapped the hatch shut and took off at a dead run to launch himself into the air. “So what are this things weak spots?”
