Prompt/challenge you're answering: Lavos and Lucca, Shenanigans abound
Notes: Drawing on the postgame short clip. :x
Lucca doesn’t hear it, exactly- just feels the disturbances and recognises them for what they are, her gun out the barest instant behind Magus’ scythe. (She doesn’t think about why, not once.) “Marle! We need to get out of here!” she shouts, and aims, cursing herself for a fool. Belthasar had said that Lavos ruled the planet from the top of the mountain- who knew how it had managed to get up here, though- and the strongest of the three Lavos Spawn had been closest to the top. And they were drawing on its power to do this- it had to have noticed that.
Whatever it’s doing to get to the peak of the mountain where they are takes time, fortunately enough. Magic and gunfire seems to be disrupting its concentration enough for Marle to pull herself together and get their own portal started. It catches easily, and she and Frog get Crono through as quick as they can. Ayla looks like she wants to fight, but Robo encourages her through the portal- they’re not going to do any good right now, after all.
And then- it’s not there, but something’s still wrong. Lucca blinks, and- it’s not the mountain peak any more, but somewhere else. It’s hard to tell where it is, though, with the landscape partly swallowed in flames but mostly covered in bodies, but she thinks she sees a flag and the design on it, she knows that flag-
Magus grabs her shoulder, and pulls her through. The portal closes, and there’s no way it could get to the End of Time anyway, but she’s breathing heavily anyway, hands tight on her gun. “That- that was,” she manages, and it’s just as well Gaspar’s keeping the others occupied, because she doesn’t want them to see her freaking out like this.
“Will you just let it happen?” Magus says, and by the time Lucca’s got her head together enough to work that out and looks up at him, frowning, he’s across the room and staring into the void outside the little square they've got.
She stares at him for a few moments, then shakes her head and goes to hug Crono, because she’s sure they could both do with it.
