WHO: Tam and Tyr WHEN: A weekend in timey-wimey space/time WHERE: Restaurant and then Tam's (Evie's) place. WHAT: Date and STUFF RATING: SUCK IT
It was a gorgeous evening, though that wasn't really a surprise. Tam had lived in California before No Man's Land had even been somewhere that existed. She and her mother had loved the weather and the laid-back feel of the state. When her mother had died, she had considered moving away but her step-father and brothers would never have allowed it. Not just that but Tam had never been on her own before and had no idea what she would do. Her grief had crippled some of the self-confidence her mother had tried to instill in her and then the abuse from those left to care for her had ensured she never felt comfortable enough to be on her own.
Until now.
The swan was still struggling to find her feet, to rediscover her voice, in the wake of life as she'd known it crumbling into ruins. Tamsyn was grateful, of course. Having a sister, a twin no less!, was something she had always dreamed of. Her mother had even mentioned her own desire to have more kids before she'd passed. If it weren't for Evie, well, she knew she'd likely either still be in the miserable terror-filled life she'd lived or she'd be dead. Still, the unknown was scary in and of itself. Tam was severely traumatized, in a lot of ways, but the other half she'd never known she had (or needed) was endlessly patient in helping her figure things out and find what she wanted in life. Tamsyn wasn't sure yet what that was but one thing she did know.
She loved Tyr.
Sure, the couple was comically, painfully, innocent. They hadn't done more than kiss since they'd met, both having trauma and issues that made intimacy and being close difficult. Tam was always afraid, shying away from physical contact due to the beatings she received and the sexual assaults that had been near-constant since she developed into a gorgeous young woman. Neither had spoken about their past issues, at least not in the way that it might effect or relate to their relationship, but it didn't lessen what they felt for each other. Tam was not one to push and she enjoyed being with Tyr. Period, the end.
However, the more time she spent with Evie and her friends, the more Tamsyn was learning. Observing. Her innate curiosity had reawakened now that some of her perpetual fear was receding and she drank in everything she watched and heard like a sponge. The swan was finding her confidence, which brought with it a new set of challenges. Challenges that mostly included a very new (and tightly kept secret) desire to be touched. She heard the jokes, saw the interactions, and even occasionally heard the actual sounds when Evie was with Nate. The timid swan blushed and flushed whenever her sister teased her but when she was alone her thoughts couldn't help but drift.
Despite this, she dutifully said nothing, knowing her boyfriend and his abilities and how he himself was wary about touching. The young couple had gone out for a rare date, Tam dressing up more than usual at the insistence of her twin. She still had trouble thinking of herself as "sexy" or "desirable" or even bold but she was not one to put up a fight. She certainly felt different in the outfit, maybe closer to bold, and she was riding on the high of getting to spend time with Tyr as the two made their way back to Evie's home. Well, it was her home too, she reminded herself. It was still difficult for her to get used to that.
Shivering slightly as the sun dipped lower in the horizon, allowing a slight chill to take its place, she found her eyes drifting to the gorgeous splashes of deep orange, red, and purple as they bled into the dark of evening. She always loved sunsets. Bright blue eyes turned back to Tyr as she smiled. "Sometimes I wish you could fly so we could get home faster," she mused playfully. It was getting cold and she was ready to be snuggled up at home. Preferably with him.
