The Cure Now Cause For Alarm
Nine years ago on the island formerly known for its inescapable prison, Worhington Industries and its top scientific team of researchers and geneticists saw the first glimmer of hope that a cure for the mutant gene was possible. Alcatraz Island had become home to a mutant most now know as Leech. This remarkable young man was able to take away any given mutancy just by being within a certain vicinity of a mutant. After carefully studying his genetic make-up for two years, scientists were able to create, what became known as, The Cure.
Mutants stood in line all across the country, hundreds even traveling from foreign countries to get this miracle cure. For some it was a way out, a possibility of normalcy. For some it was a punishment given for heinous acts against their fellow man. For all who received the Cure, it meant walking the streets like every other average Joe. From the moment the Cure was administered, life as a mutant was a thing of the past.
At least, that was the idea.
In recent months there have been a growing number of cases in which mutants who received the Cure have had a return of their powers. Every mutant who has ever gotten the shot has been logged into a long list of names which the government keeps close to them. These mutations range anywhere from something as passive as empathic abilities to the much more dangerous and assertive mutations exhibited on Alcatraz Island seven years ago.
These mutants are roaming the streets of our cities and our towns. They teach our children. They deliver our papers. They prepare our food, and hey work in our stores. And the frightening thing is that, with most of these mutants, you wouldn't know they were any different from you or me.
Am I saying there should be mutant registration? Maybe nothing as drastic as that, but I think it is negligence on the part of our state and country leaders to keep us in the dark. These people are our neighbors! We have the right to know whose company we share over coffee and invite into our homes. Sex offenders are easy to find online by going to a variety of different sites. It is only good sense that says these mutants who had the Cure be listed in something just like these sites.
As more and more mutants come to find they have their abilities back, the less safe it is for the rest of us. These people need to be listed and quarantined until they can get the Cure again. A shot every seven years is nothing. I get allergy shots every two years. There's no difference. Until this is under control, I am in the opinion that these mutants be shipped to Xavier's (School for the Gifted) and kept there until this mess is settled. Mutants should stick with mutants, and the rest of us and go back to our normal lives without living in fear of what has the potential to happen.
