Another time and place she would be spending these last few days at the mall with friends, trying to buy last minute presents and just enjoying people-watching. She was never one to gossip much, but she did like watching the crowds and seeing how people interacted. That was before her 'cure' started to wear off though, when she still seemed normal, for a time. The few extra years bought by that shot. Those years hadn't been exactly kind, her parents still couldn't embrace their daughter without the image of what she was beneath the soft skin anymore. This year, she was out and about on her own, having started on her way walking from the manse.

The people at the mansion had been welcoming, kind even, and she appreciated it whole heartedly. It still hadn't sunk in, entirely though, that they meant their kindnesses, that they were actually nice people and that they understood who and what she was. She just couldn't easily accept any of it.

It wasn't anything that anyone had said or did that made the whole thing seem disingenuous. It was that she just wasn't accustomed to it. So people saying they might like her, or people saying hey, let's go do something sometime, it seemed like platitudes given when you don't expect to have to actually do them later. Sure, let's hang out, but you never make plans to actually do so. And it bothered her, on some level she didn't feel comfortable admitting out loud, it bothered her on that level that she didn't even understand herself. So she did what she usually did, she headed out, and started to walk.

It was all about feeling alive, just to see what would happen and she had a nasty habit of putting herself into dangerous situations, so once she was a good mile or three away from the mansion she started to hitchhike. She was just going into town for some last minute Christmas shopping, and it wasn't like she couldn't protect herself, but there was the thrill of it, and that self-destructive need filled.

Paige was not particularly happy about having to go out the night before they left to head home to finish picking up presents, but the jeweler's had gotten the piece wrong the first time. She didn't really understand why it was so damn hard to get things right when they were laid out in front of you, but as it was the holiday season, she was willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. If it was wrong again, though, heads would roll.

She'd snagged Sam's keys and taken his truck, giving him the excuse that she would fill it up with gas so they wouldn't have to worry about doing that in the morning, and headed out. Paige had barely made it past the front gates when she spotted two figures walking away from the mansion. One was bouncing a little bit more than any human ever should, and the other... the other had to be Cessily.

As much as she'd been hoping that she could get in and get out, she wasn't one to just blaze on past a couple of people she knew without at least offering a ride. Sighing, she rolled the window down and slowed as she approached them.

"Hey," she called out, nodding to them. "Where y'all headed?"

"To the mall! Thiiiiink we could bum a ride chickpea?" Tabby had, for them moment anyway, stopped bouncing around like a human jackhammer and gave a grin to Paige while chucking a finger to point at herself and Cessily.

"Last minute present shopping is a mundo priority and all that jazz." Truthfully she was going to the mall to just walk around, but she'd probably end up grabbing some gifts for everybody on the way.

"The mall, some store, I don't care, I just wanted to do some last minute shopping and get out of the house." She explained to Paige almost at the same time as Tabby stated it was the mall. She bit her lower lip again and then gave a nod and a smile. Oh, a ride in the truck would be quite convenient, now that her self-destructive hitch-hiking had been waylaid.

Isn't this always the way adventures begin though. You must gather your party before venturing forth. She grinned again at the thought as it danced through her head and pushed her red hair back out of her eyes. "I'll make us white chocolate cocoa as a treat when we get back if you want... " she offered by way of sweetening the deal.

Paige laughed as the two girls explained the plan. She'd half hoped that they would be headed in a completely different direction, but since they were going where she was going, there was really no escaping it.

"Hop in," she nodded, reaching to push the passenger side door open. She rolled up the window and turned the air on a little bit warmer. "Were y' just gonna walk all the way there?"

	with a grateful bounce Tabby took the middle, figuring Cessily may want the window, and if not she'd be happy to move. Turning her attention to Paige she nodded at the other girl. "Pretty much yeah. "That or hitch-hiking." Cess said with a small shrug and a smile. Tabby had explained that they hadn't started out together so she didn't feel bad admitting it, it wasn't like she was putting anyone else in danger too. She wouldn't put anyone else in danger, it's just not her way.

She slid in next to the window and heaved up her hoodie slightly to half hide her cheek from the cars passing by outside. "If we're a bother though."

Paige scooted slightly, making room for Tabby to bounce herself into place. She nodded as the blonde girl spoke, then leaned forward to smile at Cess's addition.

"Nah, it's no problem. I'm heading there anyway. Gotta pick up something last minute for Momma before Sam and I head home tomorrow." When Cess pulled the door closed, Paige headed on toward the mall.

She turned her head for a moment and smiled at Cess. "By the way," she started, turning her attention back to the road. "I'm Paige. We haven't officially met."
