Who: Bruce and Talia
Where: Chez Joey, Metropolis
When: Sunday, August 21, 2016
What: Parents' Conference
When he'd told Damian he would speak to his mother, he hadn't even been certain she would agree to see him, given recent events. In fact, the reality would likely have been the reverse, with her wondering the same as he did. The truth was, after their last encounter, there were very few things that would have induced Bruce to contact Talia al Guhl. Their son was at the top of that list.
He'd suggested Chez Joey because it was one of Metropolis' finer restaurants, famous for an open kitchen, where diners could watch their meal be prepared while they wait; a 16-oz. filet mignon served, still sizzling, on a 500 degree plate; fresh seafood; world-renowned 'Desserts by Shari'; and Metropolis' most expansive wine cellar, with over 200 labels in stock.
It had seemed insulting to ask her to come to Gotham. Bruce didn't have to ask if she'd heard about his marriage, he knew she had. He could go to her for this. Face her on what she'd claimed as her territory instead of asking her to suffer the indignity of returning to his own after something he knew she would have taken as a personal insult.
More than an insult, he admitted. It would have hurt her.
Unwilling to think about why, or what that could mean for their meeting, Bruce waited for her at a table away from the kitchen, near the second story window that spanned the length of the dining room. Metropolis had never been a city where one spent any time staring down at the street, and even Bruce could only scowl at the too-bright city beneath him for so long before turning his gaze to the futuristic buildings around and above.
He hated it here. His scowl deepened as a red and blue blur shot by in the distance. Too much sunlight.
