In the days following his most recent escape from Arkham, Joker had returned to his main hideout that he knew none of the Bats knew of, the old Sionis steel mill. He kept it owned under one of his many aliases (an Alan Napier for this property) and for all intensive purposes it was a fully legal, albeit not great, enterprise that barely made enough profit to keep its head above water. After checking on the state of his gang with a few of his lieutenants that he trusted (not much but enough to ensure his people were loyal) he decided it was time that all of Gotham knew he was back on the streets. Especially since his right hand Vinnie had reported that the news hadn't really covered his escape. Tragic, that.
With the need for money also being a factor, Joker headed through the streets of Gotham and to one of the more high end jewelers. Arriving at the site with his gang, they climbed out and stormed inside. Most of the lingering patrons were still a bit slow to realize what was happening but as soon as he walked in, screams and cries of panic erupted and Joker grinned. Oh how he had missed those sounds! The panic, the screams, the fear that clouded everyone's mind! It was truly glorious.
"Good evening ladies and gentlemen," he greeted, his white face and ruby red lips forming a wide grin. "I know you're all just dying with happiness that I'm back. So it's time to show how much you appreciate your favorite Clown Prince of Crime! Keep calm, do as I say and I promise I will not hurt you! So stay away from those pesky silent alarms!" He tossed a bag onto the counter and leapt up onto the glass case, throwing an arm around the nearby worker's shoulders, grinning at her whimpers of fear. "Come now my dear, just fill up the bag with all the shinies, yes?" he asked. The woman nodded and, with hands shaking violently, she began doing as ordered. Joker glanced around and watched as the five gang members he had brought with him began working on getting other pieces of gold and jewelry.
Movement though caught his eyes and he frowned when he saw a guard moving towards the fire alarm. That would also alert the police and that wasn't going to happen just yet. Moving quickly, Joker grabbed the guard and shoved him to the ground. "That...my dear boy, just cost you," he growled, his eyes narrowing as his mirth vanished. Holstering his gun he pulled a switchblade out and sat on the man's midsection. The fear did little to appease the Joker and he slowly dragged the knife across the man's face.
"P-please...I have a wife and little girl!" the man begged, sweat beading on his forehead.
"Then you should have thought of that before going for the alarm." Ripping the man's shirt away, he pressed the cool blade to the man's skin. "Do you know why..." he paused to read the name tag, "I like using knives Doug?" He slowly made a shallow cut across Doug's chest. "Guns are too quick. One bullet and pfft. Done. Knives though...you get to know the character of a man...or woman...with a knife." Smirking coldly, he began drawing the knife across the guard's chest and torso, cutting here and there while in other places removing skin. Before he could do more though, one of his men cleared their throat.
"Uh...boss? I know you don't want interruptions while you're uh...workin but we need to go before the cops or Bat show up."
Grinning, Joker made a few deep cuts on Doug's face before he got up, using part of the guard's shirt to clean the blood off of his knife. "Quite right." He pocketed the knife and looked at the terrified patrons and workers of the store who had gone pale and sickly with Doug's screams of pain as Joker tortured him. He glanced down at the guard. "Let's see how well your wife and child can handle you now."
"Toodle loo kiddies!" He caught the cannister tossed to him and popped the pin. He tossed it over his shoulder into the middle of the store and headed out.
Joker was finally back on the streets where he belonged.
