It had been over a week since his mind had been healed by Steve and Natasha. And after they had dragged him out to escape the burning safe house he had broken free and fled. He had no idea where he could go. Most of the world no doubt wanted him imprisoned for assassinations he had been forced to execute. And no doubt Russia would want him back to ship him off to a gulag or some such for daring to betray them. And even worse yet the United States could brand him a traitor and arrest him for treason. So he had fled and had gone to the first place his mind could think of. The first place he had met Steve at. Camp Lehigh.
Currently he sat outside one of the buildings on the dirt, his knees drawn up and his head in hsi hands. He had hurt so many people in his life. He had lost so much as well. His self respect, his innocence (yes, he had killed before becoming a Russian agent but that had been during a war), and so many years and chances at having some semblence of a normal life. Not to mention his arm. Now he had a metal one to replace it. He wrapped his arms around his knees and rested his chin on his arms, staring at the dirt in front of him.
He couldn't hide forever. He knew that. After he had had his mind returned to him, his memories restored, he had paid anonymously for the clock tower in Gotham's repairs, using the money he had acquired over nearly a year of high profile contracts. He had even gone so far as to ensure that bullet resistant glass was placed into the windows so that another sniper couldn't take a shot at the woman.
James closed his eyes and just listened to the wildlife that had moved into the abandoned Army base. He couldn't linger here for much longer, perhaps another day or two before he needed to move. But he had no purpose in life anymore. He felt...so incredibly lost.
