What: Finding old things...
Where: Edward's Office
When: June 8th

A box sat on Edward's desk, delivered with the morning mail. It was an average, brown box, the only clue of it's contents was the elegant, spidery script across the front carefully done. Inside, resting on a nest of purple paper, was one of Edward's old eye masks, carefully cleaned and adjusted, looking brand new, even with the wear and tear that was visible to it.
A letter was folded beneath it, the same spidery writing in flowing dark orange ink -
Edward,
I found this while cleaning out one of my bolt holes this morning, thinking you might like to have it back. It is odd, the memories that can assault someone from just a tiny thing. I picked it up and suddenly I could see forever. Removing the mask from your face as you leaned against a wall, the feel of your breath on my cheek as I leaned against your chest. Your leg between mine as I straddled your hips...The smell of blood and gunpowder, the feel of torn flesh beneath mine as I switched your shoulder back together.
I remember thanking every god I could think of that we were both 'scrawny', if one of us had been more muscular, shorter...fatter...you would have bled to death as we waited for them to leave us alone, to stop searching, the puzzle pieces wouldn't have fit just right, for me to help you.
I would have had my best friend dying in my arms...all for a measly two hundred dollar score.
....promise me when you do die, it will be for something far more elegant.
But I digress, I hadn't though about that night in years, hadn't realized how much had changed...and how little really had. Are you happy, with your new life, Edward? Does it satisfy you as much as you were when you wore this mask? I miss that man, the brilliant, shining light in Arkham...the dashing genius who brought Gotham to it's knees when he was free.
I don't know this new man...this scared, trembling fool...but I would like to.
