Who: Jaime Reyes (Narrative)
NPC: Not Teddy
Where: Titans Tower
When: 2/16/14
What: Jaime responds to a summons, only to meet with a surprise.
The Tower was darker than he'd expected - Teddy had said 8:00, right? Jaime had been meaning to talk to him about everything that was going on with that reporter lady being a Skrull and everyone thinking there might be more. Maybe Teddy didn't know anything about it, but he might have some insight that could be useful. Jaime and Mia had been discussing people who would potentially make the best targets and before he started checking them out, it would be a good idea to talk it over with the person he knew who was best informed - and see what he wanted. Maybe Teddy was on the same page.
It was probably a bad idea not to tell Mia where he was going, but she would have insisted on coming with him, and Jaime thought it might be safer if she didn't. He trusted her, but worrying about her as much as he worried about his family wasn't going to do him any favors. Better to go and do what he had to and talk to her once he was on his way. She'd be pissed, but at least she couldn't try to argue about coming along, and he'd know for sure that someone he could trust was back at home in case he didn't return.
Jaime didn't strictly need lights, but he turned them on anyway as he went, letting the hard carapace of the Beetle's armor melt away into jeans and a t-shirt. The ripple of it across his skin felt like a chill, similar to the sensation people referred to as 'someone walking over your grave', making the solitude of the building even more eerie.
"Jaime." Teddy waved him over, standing in front of Spree.
"Hey!" Jaime trotted over to join him. Why was it so dark? "You wanted to see me?"
Teddy grinned, stepping back even further into the shadows, toward the opening of the vehicle. "I've got something I wanted to show you."
Following after, Jaime ducked his head to move inside, into the even darker space inside of Spree. It was there that he got his first, really good look at Teddy, up close. "What - you're not - who- ?"
The Skrull - who was not a Skrull/Kree blend like the real Teddy, but a full Skrull, according to the voice of the Scarab chattering loudly in Jaime's head - smiled Teddy's innocent smile and pulled Jaime inside so hard, he hit his head against the instrument panel. Slumping to the floor, the last thing he saw was the hatch closing, and he heard the roar of the engine as Spree prepared to take off.
