Who: Bruce and Dinah
When: Dec. 31, 2013
Where: Ritz-Carlton, Gotham City, NJ
What: Bruce gets bored at a New Year's Eve party, so he decides to make things interesting.
"You can't hide behind that tiny mask, Bruce Wayne - I've been looking for you all night." Bruce repressed a sigh of annoyance. If it didn't go against his entire reason for going out, he would have actually made an effort to hide his identity and avoid these inevitable encounters. "All by yourself?" She was young, thin, brunette, gorgeous - everything he should have been interested in, or at least should have been pretending to be interested in, but neither situation was true tonight.
Nevertheless, he plastered on a smile. "Not anymore. Jennifer, isn't it? Jane? Judy? Forgive me, I'm terrible with names."
Her smile barely flickered. "Jessica. That's all right." Edging closer, she pressed her lips against his ear. "You may not remember it now, but I can guarantee you'll repeat it enough before morning to not forget it then."
Bruce turned, a sly smile carving his face and his mouth mirrored hers near the hollow of her ear. Arm sliding around her waist, he began edging back toward one of the French doors leading out onto the wide balconies beyond. "Do you live nearby?" he murmured.
Following his lead, Jessica wrapped her arms around Bruce's neck and dance backwards, as easily as if they were performing a tango. "A few blocks. My husband's here, he wouldn't notice if I left. Or care."
Cringing inwardly, Bruce pressed the drapes out of the way so they could pass through them. "He could always join us." Phase one.
Jessica laughed, her lips finding his throat, not noticing that his hadn't done the same. "Carl? He's a bore."
Alright, phase two. "Anyone else at home?" The mask she was wearing covered only her eyes and was attached with a small band around her head. Above that her hair was artfully arranged in ringlets and Bruce casually pulled free one of the pins so that the entire mass cascaded free into his hands. Her eyes widened until he filled his hand with her scalp and Jessica purred, arching into it.
"Just the help, but they know how to keep their mouths shut. There are only two of them tonight anyway."
Perfect. "Maybe they want to join us."
There. Her body tightened and Bruce fixed his expression into one of cluelessness.
"The help?" Pulling free of him, Jessica pulled the strap of her gown up onto her shoulder from where it had slipped down. "What is wrong with you? And my hair!" Snatching the pin from his hand, she stalked off back into the party without a backward glance.
He waited until she was gone before allowing himself a chuckle. It was nice to get away from the crowd for a minute, to breathe. Bruce would rather be anywhere else, with anyone-
What the hell. Pulling out his cellphone, Bruce dialed the number of the only person he could think of who would make the evening tolerable.
"Hello," he rumbled when Dinah answered. "I'm terribly bored. If you're not busy, how would you feel about joining me for a party at the Ritz-Carlton?"
