Re: Matt & Blake
"Goat hide goes for a good amount, does it?" Matt asked, incredulously. Personally, he wouldn't adorn his office nor his home with goat pelt, but he was inclined to believe the good Doctor when he said it was a commodity that some enjoyed. There was a market for just about anything this far away from civilized society, and goat would probably fit the bill. Milk seemed like a much more useful resource from goats, at any rate.
"And who set the goats free- hypothetically- Doctor Blake?" Matt asked, barely hiding a grin and not quite making it through the doctor's offer with a straight face.
"No, thank you. I'm afraid I'm not very gifted with living things." Or plants come to think of it, but certainly not a goat. "What you need is a gentle heart with money to spare- someone who could use goat, or at least would have connections enough to sell it should they no longer want it."
He paused for a moment to survey the crowd for just such a sucker buyer, tilting his head to one side as he listened to the clink of glasses, soft voices trading all manner of stories and secrets, shoes tapping along the floor in time to the music- and the scent of a certain woman who no doubt would take the goats off of Doctor Blake's hands if he presented them correctly.
"Mrs. Stark may be interested- particularly if you give her a very good deal, perhaps two goats for the price of one. Tell her how you can't board them much longer and will be forced to sell them to a butcher. I'd name them, as well, if I were you. What are some good goat names...? Blueberry and Buttercup. Yes, Blueberry and Buttercup, though sweet, can hardly stay with you and you can't pay to have them boarded much longer. Seeing that Mr. and Mrs. Stark own a good chunk of land- you're like to see if she'd be interested in taking them both for oh... say... five dollars?"
