"One, two three, one, two three," Hill muttered in answer under his breath as it was step forward and side and back, and turn step forward and side and back. And at least she wasn't trying to lead, because that would have been much worse, only she was leading a little by stepping back on the beat and not when she realized that the step was forward.
Yeah, learning the thing backwards did not help rapidly relearning it now.
Though eventually, there was a rhythm and a pattern, and if it was all his partner's doing, it still counted. "I don't think I ever introduced myself," was what popped out of his mouth, instead of something nice about the light on her hair, or her gracefulness, or that she could actually move in the dress and not just simper.
