Re: Dinah & Bruce & Open
She'd gotten used to the looks that people gave her. That wasn't to say that she didn't notice or that it didn't affect her, but she had long gotten over the gut instinct to defend herself or her reputation or to try to fit in with people who so clearly thought little to nothing of her. That made it easier to ignore the whispers coming from behind him.
"Office, if you please." She suggested, barely shifting the canister on her shoulder. She didn't have the best idea of the people he surrounded himself with and even less of an idea of who might be present in the salon, but she did know that the information she was bringing him could easily be corrupted or misused or appropriated by less than honest individuals. People whose ranches, cattle trails, Indian trading and railroad investments could all be elevated or wiped out completely by one of the maps she carried with her.
Generally when they came to town, Dinah let Roy take the lead with whatever business they needed to conduct, just to cut down on the troubles and speed up their errands, but there were times when her particular expertise was needed.
Propriety be damned, she had a job to do and there were only a handful of people in the railroad business that she could actually trust to act sensibly when rivers, mountains and native people were found to stand between them and a transcontinental railroad.
