Who: Nick Fury. OT All SHIELD Agents
Where: SHIELD Helicarrier
When: April 1st, 2012
What: The Avenger's Initiative begins - Mandatory meeting for all SHIELD agents. "I'm not even suppose to be here today" does not apply.
Rating: PG

Nick Fury had gathered his best and brightest for the next great step on SHIELD's path toward securing the out of control violence rampaging on America's streets. All of the agent's he had high enough expectations in were instructed to be in the SHIELD Helicarrier at 0800 for a meeting. A message was sent to them ten minutes prior to the scheduled time. It contained the location of where they would meet for the briefing.

The briefing room was comprised of the same bland metal the whole Helicarrier had been constructed from. Benches were built right into the floor to prevent the use of improvised weapons. A pane of bulletproof glass in the back served as a window for the digital projector that would be used for visual aid and reference points.

Agents were given enough time to sit down in a seat of their choice and a folder was handed to them. The folders contained information regarding the details of the Initiative and the front of each was stamped with red letter's labeling it as being top secret. Once all of his agents were gathered Fury moved toward the front of the room with that casual stride he always had. It was impossible to tell he'd suffered injuries to one of his legs years before.

The Director turned to regard the group with a steely gaze that cut short any talking or playful jabs that he expected of his agents. They were the best that SHIELD had but he knew their personalities. Fury adjusted his coat and began in the commanding voice of his. "What we're about to discuss is the next step towards SHIELD's primary goal. This order comes straight from the top ladies and gentlemen. Now, let's begin."

Natasha had been early and found a seat up toward the front of the room. She read over the file as she waited and committed everything to memory. Now she knew why Fury hadn't turned her around fast enough to give her whiplash and send her back out in the field.

She sat quietly and listened.

Having been teleported into 'town' early in the morning, Bea was not in her best of moods. She had had plans but she had put them aside for this meeting - a top priority meeting - and teleporting had never been one of her favored modes of transportation. It was different from Kurt's mutant teleportation and it certainly smelled better but Bea liked to fly.

Seating herself near the front of the room, she crossed her legs and flipped through the file. It looked interesting and Bea found herself smiling at its contents. Avenger's Iniative sounded like something she could get into.

Who had to work on Sunday? Roy had to work on Sunday. Taking a seat near the back (some old habits died hard, and Roy had always sat near the back of the classroom when he could get away with it.) he told himself that the next time there was some secret agent recruiting open house he was going to go. And let all the would be SHIELD agents know that you could be called to work at any time.

He figured here would be keeners out there that that actually appealed to.

(He liked his job, he did, but he was just cranky in the mornings.)

Roy began to half halfheartedly flip through the folder, and his feeling of 'today is not going to be a good day' increased. He closed the folder shut when Fury began to talk, leaning forward a bit in his seat so he made sure he didn't miss anything.

Damnit, this was her command; she should be standing up there running the briefing, or at least opening the meeting and then turning the floor over to Fury. Maria got her coffee and tried not to fume openly; at the very least, she should be in the command center, where she was supposed to be because the world was in chaos and they needed rapid response.

It did occur to her, at odd moments, that she'd gotten rather possessive over her - well, SHIELD's - Helicarrier. It could probably be put down to the mission she'd just had; being away from the Helicarrier had made her miss her home, and she was a bit clingy now. Perfectly normal. Most people just did it with people they loved rather than flying aircraft carriers, but really, who could blame her? She got to use considerable force to keep the world from exploding.

Most days, at least. She'd seen the reality of Gotham, had just been in Metropolis staring at robots, and knew better than anyone that the needed more.

Which was where this was going. She set her edge of resentment aside as Fury began, and flipped open the packet.

Steve sat on the side of the room, on the peripheral of things, deliberately trying to avoid drawing attention to himself as Fury began to speak. Discreetly, he made a mental note of the actions and reactions of the agents present. It was hard for him not to pick up on Deputy Director Hill's moodiness. Not that he blamed her. It was hard to relinquish control, even to your superiors, when you were used to being the one in charge. He could emphasize with that. He'd sometimes felt that way towards General Philips and even Peggy, those rare times she'd ever pulled rank on him after he came into his own as Captain America.

Natasha and Bea, Agents Black Widow and Green Flame, appeared to be genuinely interested in the Initiative, though Steve suspected they had very different reasons for their interest. Agent Harper, meanwhile, looked like the discontented Private at the back of the class who was being forced to endure the most boring, torturous aspect of his basic training ever. Steve pitied the poor fellow, really, because that kind of attitude was sure to get him double-duty.

If the man was anything like his father, Fury could be diabolical that way, Steve knew. He made sure to study the briefing three times over, committing all the potential candidates to memory.
